The Illini Radio Group of Saga Communications has raised $5,000 for a free smoke alarm program. Donations were collected during a Halloween event.
The free-will donations were part of a drive-thru trick or treat event at the Champaign County fairgrounds. Over 900 kids got a chance to collect treats from vendors following all Covid precautions.
The money is going to the Christian Sheehan Memorial Smoke Alarm Fund. The 23 year old died in a house fire in 2016.
