Honoring Soul Radio In Atlanta

The National Black Radio Hall of Fame is on a mission “to honor and commemorate the achievements, contributions, and triumphs of Soul radio and the many African-American personalities who have contributed so much to the industry.”

NBRHOF has tasked itself with researching, documenting, and archiving 90 years of Black radio culture and legacies that will highlight radio personalities, entertainment, and perspectives of the community in a replica of the nation’s first Black-owned radio station, WERD, located on what was known as Atlanta’s Black Wall Street in its heyday. The museum, which will be located in the old Masonic Lodge also in Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn district, will house 3,000 square feet of space and will contain important historic memorabilia, photos, etc.

“Historians, radio personalities, and those who have interest in broadcasting history will widen their historical scope of learning when visiting the facility,” said President of the Atlanta Chapter of NBRHOF, Marsha “Radiolady” Washington George.

Black Women in Radio, an integral part of NBRHOF, will be responsible for conducting the research, managing, and creating of artistic media arts for display in the museum honoring both Black women and men in radio.

The NBRHOF receives financial support through memberships, sponsorships, grants, and gifts. Contact the NBRHOF at www.NBRHOF.com for sponsorship opportunities. Professional memberships are $100, Annual memberships are $75, and Student memberships are $25.
