Stations Offered Extended License With GMR

As the RMLC battles with Irving Azoff’s Global Music Rights Organization, radio stations that might be airing works from GMR were offered a 6-month extension from GMR on Monday. The original 9-month interim license expires at the end of September.

The letter sent to the stations, written by GMR’s Randy Grimmett, also states that, “We are happy to offer this extended interim license to your station and are also happy to engage in direct negotiations for a longer term license.   Please contact us via email at [email protected] with questions about this license or a longer term license.”

The RMLC filed an antitrust lawsuit in the federal court in Philadelphia late last year against the music licensing organization, based on GMR’s “attempt to require commercial radio stations to pay prices for music performance licenses that are unfairly high and anticompetitive.”
