Michigan Station Could Be In Trouble

If you only operate a radio station for one day a year are you really a radio station? On Thursday, the FCC took up the matter of WRAX-FM in Lake Isabella, Michigan which has filed for a license renewal. The problem is the Commission says the station only operated one day a year since it was initially licensed seven years ago. The station is owned by Radioactive (Randy Michaels). Here’s what the Commission has planned.

The Commission has adopted a hearing designation order regarding the WRAX request. The hearing designation order begins a proceeding to determine whether the station’s license renewal application should be granted. The Commission will determine whether Radioactive has fulfilled its licensee obligations. The Commission says, “A broadcast licensee’s authorization to use radio spectrum in the public interest includes the obligation to use the station to serve its community, providing programming responsive to local needs and interests.”
