Kempton To Program WASH-FM
iHeartMedia Washington, DC, has named Jill Kempton PD for 97.1 WASH-FM (an 80s, 90s, and Today format). Kempton moves to DC, from WTLW in New York, where she was APD, Music Director, and Imaging Director. She spent her first eight years in radio at WBEB in Philadelphia.
McCann Creative Officer Named Mercury Chief Judge
The Radio Mercury Awards announced on Wednesday that Sean Bryan, Co-Chief Creative Officer at McCann NY, will be the 2018 Chief Judge for the 27th Annual Radio Mercury Awards Competition. Award categories will be announced in December, along with Call for Entry guidelines and deadlines.
Duran’s Carney Awards To Be Televised

Rob Kruz-ing Back Into DC
Rob Kruz returns to the nation’s capital from WFLZ in Tampa, to take up the PD role at HOT 99.5, “DC’s No. 1 Hit Music Station,” effective December 18. He replaces Tommy Chuck who was promoted to SVP Programming for Tampa/Sarasota.
DeDe Extends Morning Show Run In Dallas
DeDe McGuire will continue doing wakeup duties on Dallas-Ft. Worth’s K104 under a new four-year contract extension that includes national syndication in 2018. McGuire’s career has included stops in Chicago and Philadelphia, and she served as co-host with the late, great Doug Banks on the syndicated Doug Banks Show.
New Licensing Head Hired at ASCAP
ASCAP has appointed Stephanie Ruyle as EVP and Head of Licensing. She'll replace Vincent Candilora wo's retiring. Ruyle will be responsible for ASCAP’s licensing revenues and operations across all platforms including broadcast and cable TV, terrestrial and satellite radio, digital, concerts, venues, retail, restaurants, bars and background music.
iHeart Promotes Howard
James Howard has been named VP of Programming for iHeart in Washington, DC. It's a newly created position. Howard will also program DC101 and BIG100. iHeartMedia Washington, DC, includes HOT 99.5, 97.1 WASH-FM, DC101, 98.7 WMZQ, BIG 100, and 104.7.
Hall Leaves Univision For LBI
Spanish-language broadcaster LBI Media has appointed Jason Hall as SVP for national sales. The 20-year television sales executive will lead the company’s TV, radio, and digital sales. Hall moves to LBI with 17 years experience at Univision, where he was VP of advertising sales. Hall will be based in the company’s New York City office.
