In business nomenclature, it might be referred to as “siloing,” and it results in the containment of information, ideas, and innovation. Within a company, that containment can become a serious risk to growth and success, and sometimes even survival.

(By Ronald Robinson) In the late ‘70s, my agency pal and I started making bi-weekly flights from Calgary to Edmonton’s ITV studios to record TV spots for Sportchek, a provincial sporting goods retailer with its greatest national growth still ahead of it. My associate, Billy-Bob, was the agency producer. I was the copy editor and on-camera presenter, with Bill (affectionately) tagging me as “the meat.” (“Cue the ‘roast’.”)

Recently retired former CBS Radio President Dan Mason (seen here with FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai and Radio Ink Publisher Deborah Parenti) was a keynote speaker at Radio Ink's Hispanic Radio Conference in Fort Lauderdale Wednesday, and he made some news. Mason told the crowd that when the Portable People Meter was introduced back in 2006, he was all for it. Now, with a decade of ratings experience in the rearview, Mason says he was wrong.

Donovan Reynolds, President and General Manager of Louisville Public Media since 2006, will retire from his position on September 30. He told the staff and board in meetings Thursday afternoon. LPM is home to 89.3 WFPL, Louisville’s NPR news station, and the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting; 91.9 WFPK Radio Louisville; and Classical 90.5 WUOL.

Jian Ghomeshi was accused of sexual assault by nine women. The former Canadian radio star was found not guilty on Thursday. The judge said the allegations were not backed up by evidence and "each complainant was less than full and frank about their evidence."

Last year, Bob Augsburg, founder and President of WAY Media, told his board of directors that he and his wife, Felice, co-founder of WAY-FM, were ready for a succession plan. Recently, the details of this plan were finalized. The first phase of the transition will begin in the summer of 2017. By July 1, 2017, a new CEO will be chosen and Bob Augsburg will transition to being founder and President Emeritus.

This Saturday, at 9 p.m., Bob Seymour will host his last weekend evening of jazz music for WUSF Public Media in Tampa, ending 35 years behind the mic. Seymour is retiring as Jazz Music Director and host at the station where he first became jazz director in 1981, hosting two hours of jazz each night.

It was the first time we've heard Mason publicly talk about the possibility of the division he ran for a long time being sold. Mason said he doesn't know anything more than what he's seen reported and that there are probably three options.
