WMMR Philadelphia’s morning team Preston & Steve took the giving to another level on Saturday, June 17, when they conducted an all-day blood drive at Valley Forge Casino Resort Event Center. Knowing blood supplies get low during summer months, the guys put out the call… and the response was fantastic.

Some new blood for the board of the Broadcasters Foundation of America: Kim Guthrie, President of Cox Media Group, and DuJuan McCoy, President, Chief Executive Officer, and Founder of Bayou City Broadcasting, were voted in last week. In addition, Julie Talbott, President of Premiere Networks, was named Officer and Vice President.

Radio Host Paul Cook Battling Cancer

Fox2Now.com, St. Louis, is running the story that Y98 (KYKY) afternoon drive personality has Stage 4 cancer. Cook made the announcement on his Facebook page: “In case you’re wondering where I have gone for big chunks of the next six months. The reason is that I will be getting treated for stage four colorectal cancer."

Extension For Reese & Kmac

The Sports Shop with Reese & Kmac has been extended for another year on Buzz Sports Radio. Hosted by Erroll Reese and Kevin McClendon, and billed by the hosts as “urban sports radio,” it is one of the few sports radio morning shows in the country that’s co-hosted by two African-Americans. The pair can be heard mornings in the Raleigh-Durham market.

Four More Reps Sign On To Radio Freedom Bill

Good news from DC: The Local Radio Freedom Act now has 195 cosponsors in the House and 22 in the Senate, with four more Members of the House of Representatives adding their names to the list. The bipartisan resolution opposes "any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge" on local broadcast radio stations.

The report says an average podcast listener is young, educated and affluent.

KLOS’ Steve Jones Gets Hollywood Star

Steve Jones is the host of “Jonesy’s Jukebox” on Cumulus' KLOS in Los Angeles. He is the sole honoree in the Radio category for the Walk of Fame Class of 2018. Jones and other honorees were chosen at a meeting held in June and ratified by the Hollywood Chamber’s Board of Directors. Jones was also the guitarist for the Sex Pistols and Iggy Pop.
