Emmis Paints A Bleak Revenue Picture

Not only did Emmis have a down Q4 (see next story), revenue for the company's first quarter looks even worse. Emmis' Q1 includes March, which came in down 5%, April, which was down 14%, and May, which is pacing down 9%.

Those are the words of the normally upbeat Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan after reporting Q4 earnings Thursday. There really wasn't much good news, with all three months and nearly every metric down for Emmis in the quarter. Add to that the fact that Smulyan is parting with one of his prized possessions to knock down debt, KPWR-FM in Los Angeles. Here are all the Q4 details...

The Emmis CEO, who is selling the company's only Los Angeles radio station for $83 million, said while it was painful, it was the right decision. "We'll be more focused, we'll have more flexibility, and we'll be able to put more resources toward NextRadio. It was the best decision for our people and our listeners. It was the right decision."

Saga is selling its TV stations in the Joplin, MO – Pittsburg, KS and the Victoria, TX television markets for an aggregate price of approximately $66.6 million. Saga is also buying WCKN (FM), WMXZ (FM), WXST (FM), WAVF (FM), WSPO (AM), W261DG and W257BQ in Charleston, SC and WVSC (FM), WLHH (FM), WALI (FM), W256CB and W293BZ, serving the Hilton Head and Beaufort, SC radio markets, from Apex Media Corporation for $23.0 million.
