Mike Tarter. One of Radio’s Top 20 Leaders

0
It's a small club but it includes 20 of the best people in radio. On Monday, Radio Ink's newest list will be unveiled -- The 20 Best Leaders in Radio. This list was chosen by the radio industry. In an extremely exciting and close vote, that included about 50 people when we first started, thousands of votes were cast on our website to help decide the final 20 names that will appear in Radio Ink Magazine next week. Forcht CEO Mike Tarter is one of those 20 leaders.

Radio’s Future African American Leaders

2
Now in its fifth year, our Future African American Leaders in Radio list, as it has in previous years, includes people from every aspect of the business and from all over the country. On the 2017 list you’ll see several trends: Many of the people listed credit their success to having a mentor, many credit their success to a great team that works for them, and many talk about how blessed they are to have advanced in an industry they love.

The FM Translator Interference Conundrum

4
(by John Garziglia) Indiana Representative André Carson, whose Congressional district includes the Indianapolis radio market, recently wrote a letter to FCC Chairman Pai, seeking information on an FM translator interference complaint proceeding that has the potential to remove a popular Indianapolis radio station from the air. “HELLO HOWARD, THIS IS THE IRS …”

1
(By John Garziglia) In a fact pattern worthy of a law school exam question, an IRS employee calls the Howard Stern Show and is put on hold. The IRS employee on a different line takes a call from a taxpayer while on hold with Howard. The Stern Show picks up, hears the IRS employee talking with the taxpayer and puts the conversation on the air live. The law school question is … in how many ways might the Howard Stern Show be civilly and criminally liable?

(MONDAY FLASHBACK) Radio Plays Too Many Commercials

30
That's the opinion of many including Chris Kampmeier (pictured), although there are many others who would disagree with that statement. The veteran programmer of 47 years is retiring December 31. His final position in the business was Region VP of Programming for iHeartMedia’s North Florida Region. We spoke to Kampmeier at length about his extremely successful run in radio, his management philosophy and, of course, programming. We'll be sharing that with you over the next several days. One of the questions we asked Kampmeier was about radio's commercial load. Here's what he had to say...
