Pew Data Gives Divided Picture Of Top Podcast Genres

A new survey by Pew Research Center has revealed that podcast listening in the United States is highly fragmented, with no single show dominating. Only six podcasts were mentioned by at least 1% of respondents who volunteered an answer, and no single podcast was named by more than 3% of all U.S. podcast listeners.

Among the most popular podcast topics were politics and government, entertainment, pop culture, the arts, and comedy. The survey also found that news is a regular theme in podcasts, with two-thirds of respondents saying that news has been discussed on their most-listened-to podcast.

The survey also found that frequent listening is associated with a greater sense of connection to the host of the podcast, with 65% of respondents feeling at least somewhat connected to their most-listened-to podcast’s host.
