‘Why Would A Kid Want To Work In Radio These Days?’

0

One of Radio Ink’s most anticipated lists of the year is only days away: our December issue unveils 2023’s 30 and Under Superstars. Nominated by colleagues and mentors, these young broadcasters, sellers, and managers are already showing signs of becoming the next generation of leaders in our industry.

We asked honorees: what made the biggest impact in your decision to work in radio?

The answers we received were insightful, moving, and inspiring.

“As a kid in high school, I listened to the station I now work for and remembered the feeling of company and pure excitement, knowing I had someone to tag along with while driving around. I was raised to ‘make your own day but make someone’s day even better.’ Countless radio mentors and thousands of listeners later, I still do that. My goal is to keep that company of someone driving and having a rough day and being there when someone needs it the most.”

“The enriched history of radio has always inspired me, and I hope to add to it and propel the industry into the future. The joy of connecting with a listener, seeing a hit you believe in turn into a chart-topper, and making radio magic is euphoric. I couldn’t picture doing anything else.”

“Witnessing the profound impact of local radio on a community. We serve as their go-to source for music, weather updates, news, sports coverage, giveaways, and more. My journey into the world of radio began during high school when I developed a deep appreciation for getting to know the community and observing the enthusiasm of the DJs and station staff.”
