Amazon Music Joins Spotify and YouTube In The Price Hike Club

Amazon has announced a price increase for its music subscription service, Amazon Music Unlimited, affecting both individual and family plans. The new pricing follows recent hikes by other music streaming services such as Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music.

For Amazon Prime members, the individual plan of Amazon Music Unlimited will now cost $9.99 per month, up from the previous $8.99. The family plan will increase from $15.99 to $16.99 per month. For those paying annually, the individual plan will rise from $89 to $99, while the family plan will be $169, up from $159. The new prices are effective immediately for new customers, while existing customers will see the change on September 19, 2023.

This is the second increase for Amazon Music Unlimited this year, following a hike for non-Prime members from $9.99 to $10.99 per month in January.

The trend of raising prices is not exclusive to music streaming; it extends to video streaming services as well. U.S. consumers have seen increases across platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Peacock, and Paramount+ as they continue to shift from traditional television to over-the-top content.
