Public radio station KUTX (98.9 FM) in Austin is celebrating its 10th year as a full-power broadcaster.

The music station launched on January 2, 2013 with a Willie Nelson song after sister-outlet KUT (90.5 FM) became a full-time news and information station for the Austin market.

The station has evolved to become “Austin’s Music Experience” and has earned a number of awards and recognitions, including the Best Radio Station designation by the Austin Chronicle alternative newspaper.

As part of the station’s 10th anniversary celebration, Austin Mayor Steve Adler proclaimed January 2 to be “KUTX 98.9 the Austin Music Experience Day.”

“It’s been both gratifying and humbling to be a connector for the Austin music scene over our first decade,” KUTX program director Matt Reilly said in a statement. I’m a big believer in the idea that deepening the relationships between audience and artist, artist and audience, and audience to audience creates a stronger music scene. “It also makes Austin a more fun place to live and do business. Hopefully, we can keep this up for many decades to come.”

In addition to the main broadcast station, KUTX programs a digital music stream called Austin Music Experience. The digital stream is simulcast on the HD-2 signal of KUTX.

The station is owned by the University of Texas at Austin.
