Spotify Growing In The Car

It’s important to note there was a tidbit of information Spotify CEO Daniel Ek mentioned Wednesday that might have an impact on the radio industry. In a rare public appearance, Ek told CNBC Spotify is doing very well in the car.

The vehicle has been radio’s stronghold for a very long time. Part of that is content. Part of that is ease of use and the price — free! However as cars become smarter, the technology continues to improve and the dashboard gives way to more choices that can be accessed easier — or via voice command. The competition will be fierce and, of course, the best content will win.

The Spotify CEO told CNBC his company is doing very well in the car. “Spotify has 50 million users in the car. It’s defenitely a big part of our business. It is growing substantially.”
