Former WFAN Host Opens Up After His Arrest

On the eve of his next court date (today), former WFAN host Craig Carton spoke to USA Today about his life being turned upside down since his arrest in September. Carton, who resigned from his high-paying morning show co-host chair, is accused of being part of a Ponzi scheme that fraudulently procured $4.6 million from a hedge fund. Authorities allege Carton promised people large quantities of concert tickets and used some of the money to pay off gambling debts.

Carton told USA Today he’s usually the one giving his opinion and now he’s the focus of everyone else’s opinion. “I’m the subject that people are talking about. It is extraordinarily frustrating. It is maddening. It was beyond difficult to keep my lips tight for the last two months.”

If Carton is found guilty, he faces up to 45 years in prison. He’s been charged with wire fraud, securities fraud, and conspiracy.

He says this has turned his life upside down. “It is devastating. There is no other word for it. I have to talk to my kids about things that they might not understand but that I know they are reading … adult things that no kid should ever have to read about, especially when you are talking about their father.”

Carton says he is now living day-to-day, trying to take care of his family. He hopes to get it behind him and get back to work one day.

While Carton deals with his legal issues, WFAN has been searching for his replacement to sit with co-host Boomer Esiason. They have been rotating in other hosts since the Carton arrest.
