John Mercure is the host of WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Afternoon News." Mercure was a big part of the station's recent Stars and Stripes Honor Flight which flew 140 Wisconsin veterans to DC to honor their service to America. To show their support for the military men and women that served this country, WTMJ listeners donated $250,000 to make two flights possible. We asked Mercure to tell us why he spearheads this event.

That's for the month of March (M-F, 6A-8P) and that's based on Average Active Sessions, according to Triton Digital's latest ranker. Triton says there's been steady growth in online listening, March AAS increased over 13% when compared to March 2015 in the M-F, 6A-8P daypart.

CBS Manager: Expect Radio Spinoff In Early 2017

The Chicago Business Journal published a profile piece on CBS Chicago Market Manager Tim Pohlman, who replaced Rod Zimmerman in January. The reason CBS Radio moved Pohlman from Phoenix to Chicago was because the revenue wasn't where the company wanted it to be, according to the Journal. Pohlman had good news for reporter Lewis Lazare, "I made my first-quarter numbers." He also said the most probable timeframe for a spinoff of CBS's radio division is early in 2017.

Media & Entertainment Spend On Digital Is Booming

eMarketer reports the US media and entertainment industries will spend a combined $7.34 billion on paid online and mobile media advertising this year. The firm is projecting that number to balloon to $11.52 billion in four years. The media category is expected to spend $4 billion in 2016, up from $3.45 billion in 2015. And entertainment advertisers will spend $3.29 billion on digital ads in 2016.

Entercom has promoted John O'Connell to PD at WMXJ 102.7 The Beach. O'Connell is already the PD for WSFS 104.3 The Shark and will continue in that position as well. Market Manager Doug Abernethy said, "Under John's guidance we have seen significant growth on 102.7 The Beach. John has the recipe for programming success in managing on-air talent, imaging, and music."

Chad Elliot has been named Market Manager for Zimmer Radio Group in Joplin, MO, replacing Larry Boyd who left the company. For the past nine years, Elliot has been the Operations Manager for the cluster and host of the KZRG Morning Newswatch, which he'll continue to host. He's been with the company for 20 years.

The former Lincoln Financial CEO will receive the NAB's National Radio Award during the Radio Luncheon, Wednesday, September 21 at the Radio Show in Nashville. Benson was Lincoln's CEO from 2008-2015. In 2014, he was named Radio Ink's Executive of The Year.
