Nielsen: Urban Contemporary, News-Talk Formats Soar
The ratings company released some new data on the two formats Monday. Nielsen says, in 2015, the Urban Contemporary format gained 0.1% each month in Nielsen’s PPM ratings. The News/Talk format is also having a banner year, thanks to the election. At the persons 6+ level, News/Talk now represents a 10% share of all radio listening – a level it hasn’t seen since the last presidential election in 2012.

Bernie Pours It On The Radio
Media Monitors is reporting Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders had a huge week on radio. From April 8 to April 17 the Bernie Sanders For President campaign aired 4,791 spots, with 55 spots added by Monroe County For Bernie Sanders bringing his total to 4,846 spots. The rest of the pack was far behind.
Tax Season Pushes H&R Block To Number Two
Block jumps from 9th to 2nd on the Media Monitors weekly chart with over 44,100 commercials played on radio stations all over the country. The Home Depot held onto the top spot with 84,655 spots airing. Burger King held onto the 3rd position with 40,690, followed by GEICO with 39,857, and Walgreens with 29,616.
Entercom Launches New Music Discovery Program
Entercom's Alternative stations will choose a monthly artist to highlight across seven stations for seven days. The program is called 7x7, and will run in Buffalo, Kansas City, Miami, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, and Seattle.
