Radio Owns The Hispanic Audience

In the latest Nielsen report, in the Hispanic 18-and-over demo, radio runs away with the audience. Approximately 96.7% of the Hispanic population is reached by radio on a weekly basis, 7 percentage points higher than television. The smartphone is a distant third at 81.5%. That 96.7% number, according to Nielsen, translates to just under 35 million Hispanics reached every week by radio.

Marketers Warming Up To Streaming Music Space

eMarketer reports that US marketers will allocate an average of 11.6% of their ad budget and inventory to digital audio by mid-2017, doubling what they spent two years earlier. The research suggests the money will go to streaming music services and podcasts, and most likely be done through programmatic buying.

NABOB Gets Big Buy From Hillary

The exact dollar amount was not revealed but it was big enough for NABOB to issue a press release. The release states that the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters "is very pleased to announce that the Democratic National Committee has placed an exclusive ad buy in support of the Hillary Clinton campaign with NABOB member stations." Forty stations will be part of the buy this month.

Walmart Returns To Radio Top Ten

While The Home Depot (56,168 spots) and GEICO (39,708 spots) switched places on the Media Monitors chart this past week, Walmart made a huge jump from 56th to 7th by airing 20,000 commercials on radio stations all across the country.

KZEN Columbus Raises $15K For Kids

Alpha Media's KZEN held a Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon and raised $15,887. Market Manager, Lisa Cherry said, “Behind every dark cloud is a ray of sunshine. The volunteers here at Alpha Media, Columbus, did their best to spread hope and sunshine to those needing it at the Children’s Hospital in Omaha.”

Smulyan Gives Emmis Board Third Extension

CEO Jeff Smulyan has offered Emmis shareholders $4.10 per share in his third attempt to take the company private. He's now given the committee the company has put together to consider that offer a third extension, until this Friday. Last week during Emmis' quarterly earnings Smulyan said the discussions have been productive and they are making "good progress."
