University of South Carolina Athletics and IMG have signed a multi-year agreement with Cumulus that will keep 107.5 The Game (WNKT-FM) the official flagship station for the Gamecock IMG Sports Network. WNKT will provide coverage of Gamecocks football, baseball, and men’s and women’s basketball.
St. Louis Station Helps Vets From “Boots To Suits”
It’s a great idea for helping veterans. 106.5 The Arch and Spencer’s Neighborhood, in partnership with other businesses, collected several dozen suits as part of their “Boots to Suits” campaign, which wrapped up this past weekend.
FCC Deals Birch A Setback In Durham
Back in May Lakes Media President Tom Birch was told by the Commission that Arohi Media had to shut down the translator Arohi Media was broadcasting on 98.3 in Durham. Birch had been arguing for nearly a year that the translator was interfering with WLUS-FM, causing it to lose thousands of listeners. This week Birch received a letter from the FCC letting him know that the translator has been OK'd to go back on the air
Apple Enters Home Speaker Fight
As expected, at Apples' WWDC Conference on Monday, CEO Tim Cook unveiled the company product he's hoping will challenge the Amazon Echo, which has become wildly popular. Apple's device is called HomePod. It's 7 inches tall, wrapped in a mesh speaker, powered by Siri of course. The device will cost $349, however it will not be available until December.
Is Cumulus Worried About A Hostile Takeover?
One analyst tells Radio Ink Cumulus' latest 8K filing is "a poison pill designed to prevent a takeover of the company." This will no doubt fuel more speculation as to what Lew Dickey may be up to after he launched a new company called Modern Media Acquisition Corp which was specifically created to effect a merger.
