Magazine: Country Radio Is Sexist
It's a topic that never seems to go away. Why doesn't country radio play more female artists? Is there some underlying factor that leads to so many radio stations dominated by male artists? Or, is their music just not good enough? The latest to highlight the issue is Rolling Stone which is calling out country radio after strong sales of the latest Miranda Lambert album despite minimal radio support. The magazine calls it sexism.
Ransomware Attack Cripples KQED
The San Francisco public radio station has been "bombed back to 20 years ago, technology-wise," according to senior editor Quenna Kim. According to The San Francisco Chronicle the attack took place in late June and the station is still trying to fix the problem.
More Legal Trouble For Spotify
Spotify is being sued by two publishers out of Nashville. According to Variety, Rob Gaudino and Bluewater Music allege that Spotify did not have a license to stream thousands of songs from their catalogs. They are asking for $150,000 per infringement.
Moonves On Sileo Show Friday
CBS CEO Les Moonves will make an appearance on The Dan Sileo Show this Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. Sileo hosts a sports talk show on The Mighty 1090 in San Diego which is owned by Broadcast Company of the Americas. Here Are The 2017 “Rising Through The Ranks” Winners
Scholarship winners for this year’s Rising Through the Ranks Seminar, presented by the RAB, BMI, and the Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio group have been selected. Twenty-five broadcasters will attend this year’s seminar August 16-17 at the BMI Nashville office thanks to the scholarships.
iHeartRadio Music Festival Lineup Announced
The 2017 iHeartRadio Music Festival lineup of artists was announced on Tuesday. This year, the two-day event will feature performances by Coldplay, DJ Khaled, Chris Stapleton, Kings of Leon, Big Sean, P!NK, Miley Cyrus and others. Ryan Seacrest will again be the host. The event will take place September 22 and 23 in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena.
