It was "no comment" all around following the one-paragraph note sent around to the press stating that Emmis would be exiting the St. Louis market by selling two FMs to Hubbard and two FMs to Entercom. With St. Louis coming off the board for Emmis, that would leave the company in only three markets.

Radio’s New Guy At The NAB

Earlier this week we reported that the NAB’s Executive Vice President of Radio, John David, was moving away from his day-to-day role as head of the NAB Radio Department as of next week. He'll continue to serve as a Senior Advisor to the NAB. And as the NAB reviews its organizational structure, a familiar face at the NAB will be representing radio.

Cumulus’ Day in Court Arrives

A plethora of filings, motions and orders were made on day one of Cumulus' Chapter 11 Bankruptcy proceeding in front of Judge Shelley Chapman. Those documents include giving Cumulus the authority to pay its past due bills to Nielsen and continue doing business with the ratings firm. Nielsen was owed millions of dollars.

So much for those who think advertisers are moving away from digital due to fraud and poor results. The Interactive Advertising Bureau announced on Wednesday that digital advertising revenues in the United States for the first half of 2017 surged to an all-time high of $40.1 billion.

Why Was Cumulus Hit With $20K FCC Fine?

It's a pretty good size fine, especially for a company that recently filed for bankruptcy. The Commission says Cumulus' cluster of five stations in Myrtle Beach has repeatedly violated a number of the Commission’s EEO rules for several years, some go back as far as 2008. The violations were found after the South Carolina cluster was randomly selected for an audit of its EEO program.
