A product builder whose résumé runs from Viacom to Hearst is taking charge of the public radio organization’s digital future. David Berzin will lead product and data strategy as Senior Vice President, including the infrastructure behind NPR’s product and Network tools.
Berzin comes to NPR from Hearst Magazines, where he was Vice President, Product, International. There he expanded its audience platform across its international portfolio and led AI initiatives for technology teams and editors. He previously built audience measurement, identity, and advertising products at Viacom and led MTV’s social platform and its early partnerships with emerging social networks. His background also includes product leadership roles at the health startups Vori Health, Parsley Health, and Mindbloom. He began his career launching digital video for The New York Times, WhiteHouse.gov, and Condé Nast.
NPR Chief Operating Officer Ryan Merkley said, “Serving our audiences means bringing the same ambition and curiosity to our digital products that we bring to our journalism and storytelling. David brings a combination of product leadership, technical expertise, and experience working across networks of media brands. He understands how to build for people’s everyday needs, and I’m excited to welcome him to deepen our relationships with audiences and sustain NPR’s public service mission.”
Berzin remarked, “I’ve spent my career building products at big media companies and mission-driven startups. NPR is the rare place that brings together that focus and sense of purpose. I look forward to partnering with our member stations and continuing to make NPR’s journalism, music, and storytelling something people choose every day.”
