The federal and Utah state authorities have arrested the man they believe shot and killed Conservative activist and Salem Media host Charlie Kirk on Wednesday. According to court documents, the suspect is being held without bail at the Utah County Jail.

As with the news of Kirk’s death, President Donald Trump was the first to disclose the initial information, appearing on Fox News on Friday morning to say an arrest had been made. At a press conference later that morning, Utah Governor Spencer Cox said 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was taken into custody on Thursday night on suspicion of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily harm, and obstruction of justice.

Cox claimed key evidence includes engravings on bullets found in a rifle believed to have been used in the attack, as well as messaging app exchanges attributed to Robinson that a roommate turned over to law enforcement. Authorities say Robinson is believed to have acted alone.

Robinson reportedly indicated responsibility to a family friend after the shooting. Law enforcement officials said Robinson’s father, after recognizing him in surveillance photos, worked with a pastor to encourage his son’s surrender.

The investigation into Kirk’s killing remains ongoing. Authorities have not said whether Robinson is cooperating with investigators. Formal charges are expected early next week. President Trump has expressed his desire for the shooter to face the death penalty.
