‘Moug and Karla’ Replace Chicago’s ‘Morning Mess’ On B96

Following the cancellation of The Morning Mess, Audacy Chicago is refreshing the weekday schedule of B96 (WBBM) with Moug and Karla Mornings. The new show adds John Moug to the station roster alongside station vet Karla Hernandez.

Moug comes to Chicago after a stint at Lotus Communications’ Star 101.5 (KPLZ) in Seattle, where he spent two years hosting mornings with Angie Parker. He also has experience hosting The Wolf Wake Up Show with John & Jamie at 92.5 The Wolf (KKSE) in Denver and on-air at 98.5 KLUC in Las Vegas.

Hernandez joined The Morning Mess, led by “Joey Boy” Rodriguez, in 2019 – then airing on Audacy Phoenix’s Live 101.5 (KALV). The show relocated to Chicago in 2021 before Joey Boy decided to move back to Phoenix and relaunch the show there. Hernandez remained with the Chicago iteration of The Morning Mess, which was disbanded in February.

Moug’s arrival sees former Morning Mess co-host Jeana Shepard moving to middays with the show’s other co-host, Aneesh Ratan, laid off from Audacy entirely.

B96 Brand Manager Molly Cruz said, “We are thrilled to welcome Moug to B96! His passion for radio and wealth of experience in strategic morning show execution makes him the perfect addition to our team – not to mention he’s one of the most likable guys in the business!”

Moug commented, “Mornings on B96 has been a dream of mine as long as I can remember, and I cannot believe this is real! Chicago?! Thank you to Dave Richards and everyone at Audacy who helped make this happen. Most of all, thanks to the amazing Molly Cruz for giving me this incredible opportunity. Working with Molly, Karla, producer Frank and the rest of the B96 team is quite literally a dream come true! Shout out to my wife Stacy and our brand new baby girl Dahlia for coming with me on the journey!”
