Joey Boy Departs Chicago’s ‘Morning Mess’ In Favor Of Phoenix

Audacy Chicago’s B96 (WBBM) is having an AM split as Morning Mess co-host “Joey Boy” Rodriguez returns to Phoenix. Rodriguez cited his struggle with depression and homesickness following his move to Chicago as the reason for his decision to return to Phoenix, where he will once again broadcast on Audacy’s Live 101.5 (KALV).

The Morning Mess first aired on KALV in November 2014, when Rodriguez moved to mornings alongside Lady La. The show evolved in January 2019 when then KALV’s midday host Jeana Shepard and promotions assistant Karla Hernandez joined the show. It was syndicated from Phoenix to Los Angeles until KNOU’s flip to KNX-FM in December 2021, and then was relocated entirely to Chicago in March 2022, while still being broadcast on KALV.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Rodriguez expressed his gratitude and excitement for the next chapter in his life and career, while also thanking his Chicago listeners. While Rodriguez will continue his own Morning Mess on KALV, his former co-hosts Aneesh Ratan, Shepard, and Hernandez will continue on B96 under the Morning Mess name.

As Rodriguez departs the Windy City, Audacy Chicago has announced they are now seeking a new co-host for mornings on B96. Applicants can submit their resumes and airchecks through Audacy’s site.

  1. Thats unfortunate. I find Joey Boy, annoying, insensitive and severely immature. The attention *home should’ve stayed gone.
    P.s. you’re 100% not funny…
