The Alliance for Women in Media has announced that syndicated radio staple Delilah will receive the first-ever Gracies Icon Award. The award will be presented at the 2023 Gracies Leadership Awards event in New York City. Delilah will be recognized for her significant contributions to radio broadcasting and her ongoing efforts to uplift her audience.
With a career spanning over 30 years, Delilah is the most-listened-to woman on radio in the U.S. Her numerous accolades include an induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2016 and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Broadcast Hall of Fame in 2017. Notably, her NAB induction marked the first time in 35 years a woman has received such an honor. Delilah also won a Marconi Award for “Network/Syndicated Personality of the Year” in 2016.
Beyond her on-air persona, Delilah owns KDUN-AM in Reedsport, Oregon, the station where her broadcasting career began at age 14. She purchased the then-bankrupt station in 2021 to restore local media to the community. Additionally, she is an author and philanthropist, having founded the Point Hope foundation in 2004 to advocate for neglected children.
The Gracies Leadership Awards ceremony will take place on November 13 at Tribeca 360°. Delilah will be honored alongside other distinguished recipients such as Rebekah Dopp, Rosalyn Durant, Suzanne Grimes, Rashida Jones, Susan Larkin, Lori Locke, and Kay Olin.
AWM President Becky Brooks stated, “We are thrilled to present the first-ever Gracies Icon Award to Delilah. Delilah’s remarkable career in broadcasting has been a source of inspiration and empowerment for countless women in the industry. Her commitment to connecting with her audience through the airwaves is truly exceptional. Delilah embodies the spirit of the Gracie Awards, and we are honored to celebrate her achievements at this year’s event.”
