The University of North Texas has introduced Mean Green Hits, a new internet radio station targeting Gen Z and Millennial audiences. The station had a soft launch on August 14, with the official start coinciding with World College Radio Day on October 6.
The station was started and is managed by UNT junior Justin Walters with the aim of becoming an education tool for students interested in media. While Walters is currently the sole student operating the station, he disclosed to the Denton Record-Chronicle that other students have expressed interest in joining. He also indicated that local artists might have the opportunity to submit their songs for airplay as the station matures.
UNT also operates two over-the-air stations: 88.1 Indie (KNTU) and The One (KNTU-HD2).
