Austin’s NPR Station, KUT, is releasing a new mental health podcast series, titled Mind of Texas, on July 12. Produced by KUTX Studios, Mind of Texas is a sister podcast to the Hogg Foundation’s Into the Fold podcast, which started in 2014.

The podcast, hosted by Ike Evans from the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, will air on the second Wednesday of each month and aims to facilitate accessible and in-depth discussions on mental health in the Lone Star State, with an emphasis on persons of color.

The inaugural episode, titled Minority Mental Health: Women Knowledge Workers in Higher Education Show Themselves Out, delves into Dr. M. Yvonne Taylor’s research on the impact of gendered and racialized organizational structures in large universities. Subsequent episodes will cover topics such as the history and present state of the Austin State Hospital and the alarming increase in suicide rates among Black youth, featuring expert interviews and personal experiences.
