DWNLOAD Media, a new podcast company, is being launched by a group of media and investment veterans. The company, co-founded by Chris Peterson, former EVP of podcasts at iHeartMedia, aims to invest in audio and podcast companies, primarily focusing on content. DWNLOAD Media has raised a small seed round from investment firm Co_Made and is in early talks for a Series A.
The company plans to bring investment and growth opportunities to its portfolio companies, helping them expand beyond audio into areas like merchandising and live events. The podcasting sector has seen fluctuations in valuation and investor interest, but DWNLOAD Media believes that content remains the key driver. Peterson predicts that in the future, the podcasting space will resemble Hollywood, with more opportunities for creators, producers, and networks.
