KEDM-FM in Northeast Louisiana is giving the gift of reading this holiday season. The University of Louisiana Monroe Public Radio station is providing books through its Give the Joy of Learning year-end fundraising campaign.
For the fourth year, the program will provide books to second- and third-graders in three parishes. According to the station, 74% of public school fourth-graders in the state are unable to read at grade level.
“KEDM listeners are lifelong learners,” said News and Public Affairs Director Cory Crowe. “We’re inviting them to share their passion for learning new things and impacting a child’s life with a book.”
When donors give to KEDM through December 11, the station will deliver a book in the donor’s name to a child in an area school. The campaign aims to impact 2,000 students in 12 schools.
