Nielsen: Country Listeners Lean Conservative
The ratings firm released new data Wednesday regarding Millenials and how their listening habits differ by political view. Nielsen is releasing the data to try to help the radio industry get the point across to politicians that radio is an important medium to include in their media mix.
NPR One Scoring Big With Young Listeners
The Current has the details regarding the NPR app, which is a stream of NPR news and local coverage targeted to the listener’s location. It launched in 2014. The largest group of listeners on NPR One is in the 25-to-34 demo. That's according to NPR's own stats. And 40 percent of their listeners are under 35. More than a third of users who answered the NPR survey say they never or only occasionally listen to broadcast radio.
New Jersey Broadcasters Convention Begins Today
At 8AM Association President Paul Rotella (pictured here at the show with Radio Ink Publisher Deborah Parenti) will give his State of the Industry address. That will be followed by a full day of panels hosted by many familiar names in and out of broadcasting. Those names include Fred Jacobs, Gordon Borrell, Pierre Bouvard, Charlie Sislen, Jason Bailey, Christine Travaglini, Deborah Parenti and many others.
WDBO Returns To Regular Programming
Cox Media Group's News and Talk station in Orlando returned to its regular schedule of talk hosts Wednesday, according to a story posted to the station website by Program Director Joe Kelley. "We've been proud of our service to the community in the aftermath of the terror attack at the Pulse nightclub on June 12th."

All year long, in the print edition of Radio Ink magazine, we've been taking a look back at the 1996 Telecom Act that transformed the radio industry. When the law passed, one broadcaster all fired up and ready to get in on the act was Bill Stakelin. Stakelin owned Apollo Broadcasting at the time and, having just gotten over the euphoria of duopoly, Stakelin could not believe his ears when he heard the ownership floodgates had been opened.
Everett In For Carls In Louisville
iHeartMedia announced Wednesday that Josh Everett has been named Director of Spoken Word Programming for its Kentucky-Indiana Region. Everett will also oversee NewsRadio 840 WHAS-AM in Louisville. He replaces long-time WHAS-AM PD Kelly Carls who's retiring. Everett will be based out of Louisville, moving over from iHeart's KHOW-AM and KDSP-AM in Denver, where he was PD.
Hardee Replaces Mitchell On The Mountain
Entercom's KQMT 99.5 The Mountain is bringing in Dan Hardee for the afternoon drive slot to replace 36-year radio veteran Dan Mitchell, who's retiring to spend more time with his family.
WABC Launches New Fashion Show
New York City talker 77 WABC is adding a new weekend show that goes behind the scenes of the fashion industry. Always in Fashion will be hosted by one of the fashion industry’s most successful business leaders, Mark Weber. The one-hour weekly business program will run Saturdays from 10:00-11:00 p.m. EST.
NBC Sports Radio Available On Apple Music
That announcement was made Wednesday. The joint sports talk venture between NBC Sports and Westwood One can be streamed via Apple Music.
Cumulus Gets A New CFO
Cumulus has hired John Abbot as its new Chief Financial Officer effective July 1, 2016. Abbot most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Telx Holdings, a provider of connectivity, co-location, and cloud services in the data center industry. Abbot replaces J.P. Hannan, who resigned his position after six years in order to pursue other interests. Hannan will assist the company for several months during the transition.
