Kathy Brown is the new PD for Cumulus' Urban radio stations, WWWZ-FM and WMGL-FM, in Charleston, SC. Brown joins Cumulus from iHeart Media-St. Louis, where she was PD of Urban station KMJM and Gospel station KATZ-AM. She replaces Terry Base.

Alana Lynn has been hired as Music Director and afternoon host for CBS Radio's KMLE-FM in Phoenix. She replaces Bryan Washington who accepted a position in another market. Lynn’s most recent experience includes morning host on KTRR and midday host on KUAD in Fort Collins, CO.

Dan Markus had been programming WOGB-FM in Green Bay, a position he held for 17 years, but now he’s back to the Appleton/Oshkosh, stations as host of mornings on WNAM-FM and host of middays on sister station 103.9 WVBO. He debuts Tuesday and will be on-air weekdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Bobby Bones Show is celebrating four years on the air, and multi-platinum artist Thomas Rhett is supplying the tunes. Rhett, who took home “Country Artist of the Year” at the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards last weekend, will treat listeners to an hour-long, in-studio concert.  He’ll be playing his hits and chatting about his life and career. It all goes down Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 7 - 8 a.m. CT.

The popular Phil Valentine Show has added KCMO/Kansas City to the list of markets where it airs. The show will fill the afternoon drive slot, 4-6 p.m. The show is #1 Persons 25-54 in Valentine’s home market of Nashville. Phil Valentine is author of the bestseller, The Conservative's Handbook.

Tampa has not been a low maintenance market for Beasley Media. Of course there's the ratings tampering situation with Bubba The Love Sponge that sort of involved the company because Bubba was on their station. Now, an issue with a PPM panelist that Nielsen decided to remove from the panel that will affect Beasley's Hispanic station WYUU.

Hispanic radio can sell groceries, cell phones, cars, and furniture, but can it sell itself? The radio industry as a whole often complains that agencies are out of touch — that ad execs in New York or L.A. don’t “get” radio’s impact on real consumers. Is this true, or does radio fail to make the most important first sale, selling itself to the agency?

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai will keynote the 2017 NAB Show Tuesday, April 25. The address is expected to provide insight into the FCC’s policy and regulatory objectives related to broadcasting, technology and communications law, and regulation. The new FCC Chairman will also be on the April 17 cover of Radio Ink Magazine.

The Long Island newspaper is called This is Country. It's a free, full-color newspaper dedicated to all things country music and will be published quarterly. JCV Long Island Market Manager Bruce Shephard said, “This is Country is the perfect fit for Long Island, lots of interviews, lots of behind-the-scenes pictures, and the country lifestyle all the time."

The station has just won eight Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Association Awards. WTOP’s Chris Core was recognized for his series Core Values in the Editorial category, Kristi King for her “Sip ‘N Shop” feature, and Max Smith in the Individual Reporter category.
