(By Steve Goldstein) Sometimes technological innovation takes away. Sometimes it gives. Digital has changed so much of media. The music business was famously rocked by theft and sharing on platforms like Napster. The movie industry filed suit against VCR makers, but later made billions with VHS tapes, DVDs, and streaming video.

It's not quite what the folks at NextRadio want from Apple but it's probably the next best thing. NextRadio has launched a free app for iPhone users, but this one will use data because it utilizes streaming as a way to allow listeners to tune into local radio. Until Apple decides to unlock the FM Chip in all of its phones, streaming will have to be the way of the world for iPhone users.

The Adult Contemporary station is teaming up AJ Machado and Sara Perry as co-hosts of the new AJ Mornings morning show beginning Monday, August 7, weekdays from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. AJ Machado previously hosted The AJ Show for the past five years on ENERGY 103.7 – sister station to KyXy 96.5. 

The podcast giant has hired Dean Canter as their new National Sales Manager. In his new role, Canter will oversee all regional sales offices for the company, in addition to developing strategic initiatives, innovating new advertiser opportunities, and driving industry trends in the rapidly-growing podcast market.

Radio's number one talk show host concluded his 29th year on the air Tuesday with an anniversary cake from his staff, classic clips from years past, and listeners who called in who've been with him from the very beginning. Limbaugh consistently tells his audience radio is all he ever wanted to do. He actually started his broadcast career in August of 1968, 50 years ago. His syndicated program is now heading into year 30.

United Stations Radio Networks, Inc., announced Tuesday the official introduction of a new prep service for radio stations called SPARK. At the core of the service is a daily feed of call-in comments from listeners intended to “spark” further audience engagement. SPARK is a complete prep service with a focus on listener audio that will spark audience engagement.

Kevin Crockett is moving from Philadelphia to Allentown where he'll co-host WLEV-FM’s new morning radio show, Selena and Crockett. Crockett joins Cumulus' WLEV from CBS Radio-Philadelphia, where he's been heard in the market for the last eight years.

Portland’s Classic Rock station 92-3 KGON, is bringing back Sunday Night Blues Room, featuring longtime radio veteran Steve Pringle. The show debuts Sunday, August 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will feature all the blues favorites Portland has come to know and love.

Once again, radio has shone in its charitable work. This time it’s Cox's Atlanta station News 95.5 and AM750 WSB (WSB-AM/WSBB-FM) which hosted the 17th annual WSB Care-A-Thon. The incredible total raised was a new record for the event.
