Beasley Media CEO Caroline Beasley will keynote the DiGamma Kappa scholarship banquet on Thursday. DiGamma Kappa is the official Broadcasting Society of the University of Georgia. Every year, the society presents the DiGamma Kappa Distinguished Achievement Award in Broadcasting and Cable “For Exceptional Service.”

Los Angeles television anchor and reporter Lauren Sivan has joined Dr. Drew Pinsky as co-host of the daily News Talk radio show Dr. Drew Midday Live with Lauren Sivan. The show airs live Monday through Friday, Noon-3 p.m. on Talk Radio 790/KABC Radio (Los Angeles) and from 1-3 p.m. in a live simulcast on News Talk station KGO 810 (San Francisco). 

After five years in the Financial District, Sun Broadcast Group has opened its new location in New York City on 7th Avenue, steps away from Madison Square Garden. CEO Jason Bailey said, “I’m so excited about our new Midtown Manhattan home. I think we hit the jackpot. The new SBG-NYC is a place we look forward to entertaining in for many years to come.”

Earlier this week we reported that the NAB’s Executive Vice President of Radio, John David, was moving away from his day-to-day role as head of the NAB Radio Department as of next week. He'll continue to serve as a Senior Advisor to the NAB. And as the NAB reviews its organizational structure, a familiar face at the NAB will be representing radio.

Beasley Media Group’s Fayetteville radio cluster, in collaboration with Cape Fear Valley Health, will present Fayetteville Fights Back to raise awareness about the opioid epidemic. The uninterrupted commercial-free, one-hour live simulcast, featuring experts from the front lines, will take place on Tuesday, January 30, 5-6 p.m.

Shawn Matian is a successful attorney, criminal defense expert, immigration activist, legal consultant and founder of the L.A. law firm The Matian Firm. A big reason for his success is the fact he used radio to build his business. Another reason for Matian's success is Lou Petracci, who sold radio successfully before launching his own company called 711 Media. We spoke to both Shawn (pictured left) and Lou about the power of radio and how it helped Matian become as successful as he has. The 77-year-old host told listeners Monday morning that his last show with Cumulus will be March 29. Imus said that it had to do with the Cumulus bankruptcy and he understood they are trying to save money. Imus was told he would not be paid past the end of his contract.

The NAB's Executive Vice President of Radio John David is moving from his day-to-day role as head of the NAB Radio Department on February 1. He will continue to serve as a Senior Advisor to the NAB. As the NAB reviews its organizational structure, Steve Newberry will have oversight of the radio department. David, who's been with the NAB since 1989, has also been on Radio Ink's Most Powerful People in Radio list since 2000.

On his program yesterday, Rush Limbaugh took several segments to talk about his relationship with Ed McLaughlin, the media executive that died last week at the age of 91. Rush said if it wasn't for the chance McLaughlin took on him, his show wouldn't exist today.
