Entravision launches a new Hispanic format in Los Angeles. It's called La Suavecita, a regional Mexican, focused on Grupero and Cumbia music from the ’80s and ’90s. The station slogan in “Con Todas Tus Favoritas,” and will continue to air El Show de Piolín in morning drive, followed by Mayra Berenice in middays and the LM Show in afternoon drive. The station’s previous format, Super Estrella, will continue on a digital platform.

2016 Lowest Year For Radio Deals In Decades

According to SNL Kagan Radio deal volume in 2016 totaled $522.6 million, which is the lowest year on record going back to 1982. New Deals For Two Salem Executives

Three-year deals for Salem's Executive VP and CFO Evan Masyr and President of Broadcast Media David Santrella. Masyr will be paid $410,550 in 2017, $418,800 in 2018, and $427,200 in 2019. Santrella will make $500,000 in 2017, $510,000 in 2018, and $520,200 in 2019. Both are also eligible for bonuses which would be decided by Salem's Compensation Committee.

Radio executives had very high hopes that political advertising was going to give the industry a big revenue bump in 2016. That didn't happen and digital is the reason why. Radio's share of political revenue in 2016 was 6.3 percent of the total amount spent, according to the latest data released from Borrell & Associates. That's a 23% decline from the 2012 election cycle.

BMI Files Action Against RMLC

Tuesday morning, BMI filed an action in Federal Rate Court looking to set interim fees for radio stations represented by the Radio Music License Committee. The RMLC represents over 10,000 radio stations. BMI says the RMLC made an unacceptable offer and that's the reason for the court filing. The RMLC did not respond to our request for comment.
