And the medium now taking in more ad revenue than radio is....Mobile. That's according to BIA Kelsey's midyear update to its Local Advertising Forecast. For 2017, the firm has decreased its advertising estimate to $147.9 billion, down from $148.8 billion forecast in October of 2016. The lighter revenue projection is due to an overall weaker-than-expected economy in the beginning of 2017, which has led to softness in advertising revenues. Here's how radio stacks up against the other media.

Carr, Rosenworcel, Nomination Hearing Set.

The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will hold the nomination hearing for Jessica Rosenworcel and Brendan Carr to become members of the Federal Communications on July 19 at 10 a.m. Both are likely to be approved and if so will give the Republicans a 3-2 majority on the Commission. Carr is a Republican and the former FCC Commissioner Rosenworcel a Democrat.

And the now former CMG RVP is headed to Entercom where she will retain the same title, but it's unknown exactly where she'll be working just yet. There's some speculation it may be out on the West Coast. Her entire team in Orlando and Jacksonville were caught completely off guard by the change as it appears was CMG EVP of Radio Bill Hendrich.

The incident took place Monday afternoon near iHeart's KISS-108 in Boston. A man walking near the radio station building demanded to hear a song by the Insane Clown Posse. He did not make it into the radio station and was shortly confronted by police at his vehicle where he also had several large knives.

WJBC-AM 1230 and 93.7 NASH Icon will continue as the flagship stations of Illinois State Athletics for another 5 years. The stations will provide broadcasts of all Redbird football and men’s basketball games in the greater Bloomington-Normal area. In addition, fans will hear all ISU women’s basketball broadcasts, and football and basketball coaches’ shows on WJBC-AM 1230.

Paxton And Oliviero To Work Together

Right now, Chris Oliviero is the EVP of Programming for CBS Radio. After the closing, he will retain that same title with Entercom. Same goes for Pat Paxton who is now President of Programming at Entercom. He keeps his title and both men will report directly to David Field and serve on Entercom's senior management committee. Paxton will oversee the music brands and Oliviero will oversee the News/Talk/Sports brands.

Who Will Run The Overlap Markets?

That question was not addressed in Field's internal memo Monday. For example, in Boston, there are two strong managers running two excellent clusters. Phil Zachary is running Boston for Entercom, while Mark Hannon runs the market for CBS. In San Francisco Steve DiNardo is the Market Manager for Entercom while Doug Harvill is the Market Manager for CBS Radio.

In the internal memo to his team, Entercom CEO David Field provided an update on how this massive merger is progressing. He expressed his appreciation to everyone for their patience. "We all want to see the deal close as quickly as possible, but these large mergers just take time. I am pleased to report that we are right on schedule and hard at work, making great progress in every area required to complete our merger successfully."

A heated exchange Christie had with a regular caller Monday went viral and received a lot of national publicity. The only problem...it had nothing to do with sports.

The NAB announced the finalists for the 2017 NAB Marconi Radio Awards, honoring radio stations and on-air personalities for excellence in broadcasting. The five stations up for Legendary Station of the Year are CBS Radio's WCBS-AM in New York and KNX-AM in Los Angeles, Emmis' WBLS-FM and WQHT-FM in New York, and iHeartMedia's KIIS-FM in Los Angeles.
