Nielsen Revenue Up 3%
Nielsen reported second-quarter revenue of $1.6 billion on Thursday, up 3.0%, or 4.1% on a constant-currency basis, compared to the second quarter of 2016. Audio revenue, which includes radio, was flat for the quarter.
Classic Rockers Help “The River” Celebrate 11th Birthday
The Steve Miller Band and Peter Frampton were on hand for 97.1 The River's (WSRV-FM/Atlanta), big day “The River’s Rockin’ Birthday Bash” on Sunday, July 16 at Verizon Amphitheatre in Alpharetta. The venue was filled with nearly 6,000 fans and the event was a party from start to finish.
Now This Is Out-Of-The-Box NTR Revenue
In 2011 a devastating fire on Main Street in Hutchinson, Kansas destroyed the offices of Ad Astra per Aspera Broadcasting. The station had been in that location for 25 years. 18 hours later, the building was bulldozed, the debris gone. Six months later the station had rebuilt in a new location. GM Cliff Shank got to thinking about that empty downtown 3,750 square foot lot and that lead to a very unique NTR business for the company.

Two Florida Pirates Get Snagged
It's a $15,000 fine for Wilner Lundi for operating an unlicensed station on 91.5 and 104.7 MHz in Lake Worth, Florida. The Commission says Lundi operated unauthorized stations three times in 2015. Vilnord Simon also gets nailed with a $15,000 penalty for his pirate station at 103.1 in North Miami. Simon was also caught three times in 2015 and 2016. ASCAP, BMI Try to Make Life Easier
One of the biggest criticisms of the two performing rights organizations is that it's nearly impossible to know exactly who wrote, co-wrote, or has ownership of specific works. This joint announcement is another step toward more transparency, which both ASCAP and BMI have declared is one of their goals.
KSCO Santa Cruz Losing $40K Per Month
And the for-profit FM is now asking the community for donations. According to The Santa Cruz Sentinel the 70-year-old station is turning to its listeners for support. In a station promo, owner Michael Zweling says, “KSCO has been my primary philanthropic project for over two decades and I could use some help. If you like KSCO and want to help it survive and thrive, send money. Anything at all will help.”

Career Fair Set For Radio Show
The NAB Education Foundation, in partnership with the Broadcast Education Association, will host its annual Career Fair September 7 at the Radio Show in Austin. The fair is intended to provide experienced professionals and entry-level job seekers an opportunity to network with radio companies.
