Main Studio Rule Hits FCC Agenda

The Federal Communications Commission will meet on Tuesday, October 24 at 10:30 a.m. and item #6 on the agenda is the Elimination of Main Studio Rule. The Commission will consider a Report and Order eliminating the rule that requires each AM, FM, and TV station maintain a main studio located in or near its community of license.

It’s a rule the NAB has been pushing to eliminate, stating it will help stations operate more efficiently. And FCC Commissioner Michael O’Reilly said in March, at Radio Ink’s Hispanic Radio Conference, that the rule was outdated. Even a law firm, Garvey, Schubert, Barer’s Media, Telecom and Technology Group, filed a Petition for Rulemaking asking the Commission to repeal the radio and television Main Studio Rule.
