iHeart Bankruptcy Step One Complete
Bankruptcy Judge Marvin Iscur has set April 12th as the next important hearing date in the iHeartmedia bankruptcy filing. At the initial hearing Thursday at 2 p.m. Iscur determined that the relief iHeart is requesting is "necessary to avoid immediate and irreparable harm to iHeart and their estates."
Who Does iHeart Owe?
As part of iHeartMedia's Chapter 11 Bankruptcy filing, form #204 requires the debtor to file a list of creditors who have the 30 largest unsecured claims. Of the 30 on iHeart's form, in addition to the three senior noteholders that make up about $2 billion, there are seven radio companies owed north of $20 million, much of it classified as "trade payable."

Total Q4 2017 revenue for Salem decreased 4.9% to $67.2 million from $70.7 million in 2016. Broadcast revenue decreased 2.9% to $50.7 million from $52.2 million and same station net revenue decreased 2.4% to $50.6 million from $51.9 million.

After four extensions to a Forbearance agreement that would have put the company into default after skipping a $106 million interest payment, iHeartMedia has announced that it has reached an agreement with holders of more than $10 billion of its outstanding debt.
Texarkana Stations Show Their Care For Kids
Texarkana radio hosts Kelli O'Neil from KEWL FM, and Fabienne Thrash and Michael B from KPIG FM, hosted a successful simulcast radiothon on both stations to benefit the Akansas Children’s Hospital, beating the fundraising goal again this year.
Tougher Pirate Legislation On The Way
FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is not a fan of pirate radio stations. Under his leadership at the FCC there has been an increased effort to shut down pirates all across the country. However, Pai has also voiced his frustration that stopping these illegal operations is akin to the game of Whack-A-Mole -- you shut one down, another pops up. That could be changing soon.
Rosenworcel Praises Radio Stations
Also at the Radio Ink Hispanic Radio Conference in Miami, FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel spoke about her trip to Puerto Rico last week. Puerto Rico was hit hard by Hurricane Maria six months ago and is still recovering. Rosenworcel said she took some time to visit several radio stations. And, she walked away saying this: "Radio is remarkable."
