Rain and cold did not keep Audacy’s NEW 102.7 (WNEW) listeners from showing up for the pets of Staten Island. The third annual Anthony’s Walk for Animals by Karen Carson in the Morning co-host Anthony “Intern Ant” Malerba drew donations and a marching band.
The Staten Island Tech High School Marching Band and local restaurant Anthony’s Paninoteca were part of the 13.8-mile hike along Hylan Boulevard, the longest street in Staten Island. Karen Carson and Johnny Mingione gave live on-air updates.
Malerba’s efforts raised more than $16,000 for VEG Cares, which provides emergency pet care for families who cannot afford treatment.
Malerba said, “The tristate area came out on a rainy and cold day to bring the heat and sunshine, with over $16,000 donated to the animals in need. Our listeners were the motivation to keep walking all the way to the very end. Every year, it’s such an incredible experience to see the power of radio and what Karen Carson in the Morning listeners can do. We can’t wait for next year!”
