Joe Gagnon, the Detroit radio personality known as “The Appliance Doctor,” has died. Gagnon spent more than 25 years on air at Cumulus Media’s WJR-AM, building a broadcasting career around consumer advocacy and home-appliance expertise.
Gagnon’s radio work grew out of an extensive background in the appliance industry and consumer affairs, including his work as a fraud investigator for Detroit Consumer Affairs and the Michigan Attorney General’s Office. In 2002, Michigan enacted the Joe Gagnon Appliance Repair Act in recognition of his consumer-protection work.
He remained part of WJR’s lineup in his later years as host of The Home and Appliance Show alongside his producer and co-host, Donald “The Hammer” Schuster.
Gagnon was 84.
