Following Morning Edition host Mike Lamp’s 25-year run concluding last September, Colorado Public Radio has found a successor with Bazi Kanani as Senior Host starting April 27. Kanani has co-hosted CPR’s daily news podcast Colorado Today since 2024.

Kanani started her career as a reporter and host at local television and radio stations in Nevada, Michigan, Western New York, and Colorado. In 2012, she traveled abroad as an international reporter for ABC News in Nairobi, Kenya, earning a Gracie Award for her reporting for ABC Nightline on an impending humanitarian crisis in Western Africa’s Sahel region.

Kanani’s reporting has been locally and nationally recognized with honors, including a Regional Edward R. Murrow, Heartland Emmy, and Colorado and National Association of Black Journalists awards.

Kanani said, “Morning Edition has been part of my own daily routine for decades, so I personally know how much value the program provides for keeping people informed on what’s happening in our world and right at home, in our local communities. I’m honored to be part of carrying on this important work with my colleagues at CPR News.”

CPR News Executive Editor Kevin Dale said, “She quickly established herself as an engaging host with the authoritative voice of the veteran that she is. We’re thrilled to have Bazi bring her strong editorial judgment and enthusiasm for Colorado stories to Morning Edition.”
