Red Apple Media is expanding its Long Island presence with the purchase of WLID-AM in Patchogue, NY, and two FM translators in Brentwood from a Spanish-language Christian broadcaster, taking 77WABC and 107.1 WLIR across the South Shore.
According to an asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC, Red Apple will pay $500,000 for the properties, with a $25,000 deposit already made to Cantico Nuevo Ministry.
Cantico Nuevo, led by Erick Salgado, will retain five AM stations in the Tri-State Area, including WNYG-AM in Patchogue and WJDM-AM in Mineola, along with translators in New York City and Medford, NY. Beth Griffin of Griffin Media Partners served as broker for the transaction.
The acquisition follows Red Apple’s $600,000 all-cash purchase of WRCR-AM in the Lower Hudson Valley earlier this year from Alexander Broadcasting, after initially acquiring WABC from Cumulus Media in 2019 for $12.5 million.
Red Apple Media CEO John Catsimatidis said in July that the company is actively “buying a lot of stations in the Northeast” as part of a broader effort to grow WABC’s reach and potentially create a national talk radio network.
