College Broadcasters Inc. will host its 2025 Student Sportscasting Workshop from July 22–24, with a strong focus on radio broadcasting and play-by-play fundamentals. The biennial virtual event is designed to prepare college students for careers in sports broadcasting.
Across three days of sessions, students will receive focused training in game preparation, play-by-play techniques, press box production, and sport-specific strategies for calling football, basketball, baseball, and hockey on-air. The agenda also includes instruction on working with sports information directors and media partners, producing compelling halftime and postgame segments, and navigating the audio broadcasting job market.
The speaker lineup includes prominent radio voices such as Tony Brown, Director of Broadcast Services and play-by-play announcer for the Cleveland Monsters; Matt Stolz, the radio voice of Arkansas State University and the Red Wolves Sports Network; and Jake Vulinec, host at Audacy Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan (WKRK).
Attendees will also hear from Logan Potosky of the Lake County Captains and Sports Illustrated, as well as longtime Toledo play-by-play announcer Matt Melzak.
Career insights will be offered by TeamWork Online’s Buffy Fillipell and Kaelieigh Patriski, while faculty from leading college sports media programs will bring an academic perspective on radio production and student station development.
Registration for the event is now open.
CBI President Anabella Poland said, “This workshop represents the combined expertise of seasoned professionals who understand what it takes to succeed in sports media. We are providing the next generation of broadcasters with direct access to industry leaders who can share real-world knowledge and help level up their broadcasting skills.”
