Blast From The Past: Freddy Snakeskin; KROQ, 1981

1

Happy Friday! This week’s Radio Ink Blast From The Past features Freddy Snakeskin at the KROQ mic circa 1981, when the studios were still in Pasadena.

During the 1980s, Snakeskin served as both an on-air personality and program director, working with iconic personalities like Richard Blade, Dusty Street, and Jed The Fish. After his initial stint at KROQ, Snakeskin continued his radio career at other stations, such as KINK FM in Portland before returning to KROQ to contribute to the relaunch of its HD2 subchannel, “The ROQ of the 80s,” in 2018.

We love sharing your broadcast memories at the end of every week – we even share the best in our print edition every month – and we want to see more! Carts, Reel-to-Reel Machines, and Turntables in your pictures are highly encouraged.

Send your Blast From The Past story and photo to our Online Editor Cameron Coats for your chance to be featured in Radio Ink.

  1. Let me add a personal note to this: The talented Mr. Snakeskin has been the voicetracked host of the “Flashback Weekend” program which is part my Classic Hits format The Eighties Channel™ on KRKE in Albuquerque since October 2022.

    And he still sounds great.
