PRPD Association Starts New Era With New Name

The Public Radio Program Directors Association has officially rebranded as the Public Media Content Collective, marking a new era for the organization. This change, January 1, follows a strategic plan adopted in 2022, which included a re-evaluation of the group’s identity.

Established in 1987 to support public radio programmers, the PMCC now aims to broaden its reach by welcoming content professionals from various public service sectors, offering resources that help them excel in audience service.

In alignment with these changes, PMCC will not host its annual Content Conference in 2024, a unique event dedicated to public media content and audience engagement. However, plans are underway for a smaller, focused gathering in 2024 and the return of the Content Conference in 2025.

PMCC President and Executive Director Abby Goldstein said, “Public radio stations have been very successful in the last few decades at growing and maintaining broadcast audiences. In a rapidly changing media landscape, public service media has to redefine itself for new audiences who find our content on lot of different platforms. Audience service is no longer the sole responsibility of the program director, and the entire industry can benefit from the kinds of training, information, and convenings that PMCC has to offer.”
