‘Murphy In The Morning Day’ Caps WIXX Morning Man’s Career

Renowned Northeast Wisconsin radio personality Jim Murphy called it a career after his Tuesday show on Midwest Communications’ WIXX after 32 years, but not before getting one final honor from Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich. Mayor Genrich officially declared the day as “Murphy in the Morning Day” across the city.

Since joining WIXX in September 1991 after a stint at WLMG in New Orleans, Murphy has become a familiar name to the area on-air and off. For 28 years, he was a familiar presence at Lambeau Field, hosting game day activities and leading the Packers’ Super Bowl XXXI victory parade. His area influence was formally recognized in 2018 when the Neville Public Museum featured him in an exhibit highlighting the 50 most influential people in Brown County’s 200-year history.

When making his announcement in October, Murphy reflected on his WIXX career with gratitude, saying, “Working on a legendary station for 32 years has been a phenomenal ride. I can’t thank Duke Wright and Jeff McCarthy enough for giving me the opportunity many moons ago. I’ve been blessed with amazing co-hosts and co-workers throughout my tenure here at WIXX. I could not have done it without them, especially Katie and Nick. Also, to all the faithful listeners in the northeast Wisconsin region, thank you for your friendship and loyalty. I will miss them tremendously. Time really does fly. Savor every minute of it.”
