Steve Mears Moves From Pittsburgh Penguins TV Team To Radio

As the Pittsburgh Penguins unveil plans for their new television network, the team is also making key changes to their broadcast team for the 2023-24 season. Josh Getzoff will take over as the television play-by-play broadcaster, replacing Steve Mears, who will now serve as the team’s radio voice.

The changes in the Penguins’ broadcast lineup come after the team acquired the TV network this summer, rebranding it as SportsNet Pittsburgh and overhauling its talent roster.

Mears will provide radio play-by-play commentary, teaming up with veteran color commentator Phil Bourque. Paul Steigerwald will continue his role as the pre- and post-game radio host. This isn’t Mears’ first radio foray, having started his NHL broadcasting career as the radio voice for the New York Islanders. Before his stint with the NHL Network, he also spent three years hosting on the Penguins Radio Network.
