The Library of American Broadcasting Foundation, in partnership with  Benztown, the University of Maryland and the Broadcast Education Association are recording a zoom video session focused on Radio and Podcasting for colleges utilizing the LABF collection.

The video, called the “LABF Radio and Podcasting Power Session,” is led by LABF Board Member and Benztown President Dave “Chachi” Denes as well as Board Member and BEA Executive Director Heather Birks. It features University of Maryland Reference Specialist Michael Henry, who hosts a virtual walk-through of the library, and further offers an insightful conversation about the historic collection of radio and television broadcasts that are part of the LABF catalog.

The program initially launched in 2021 as a semester-long course at Clark Atlanta University. That school was the first to utilize the 90-minute session as part of its class.

“Everyone involved with this program is passionate about radio and podcasting,” Denes said in a statement. “It’s an absolute honor to be able to share our knowledge with students that will someday be leading the industry.”

“Students interested in any facet of radio and audio media will find this class, and these connections, invaluable,” Birks said. “We are thrilled to work with the LABF, UMD and Benztown to offer this extraordinary opportunity to colleges and universities.”
