The Radio Industry Reacts To Losing A Friend

It was only a week ago that Kinglsey announced he had bladder cancer. The National Radio Hall of Famer and host of Bob Kingsley’s Country Top 40 died Thursday at his home in Weatherford, Texas. He was 80 years old.

McVay Media Consulting President Mike Mcvay shared his thoughts about Bob with Radio Ink… “Bob Kingsley’s voice announced the arrival of many a country star during his long career. First with American Country Countdown and then with CT40. He was one of the kindest, nicest, and most professional people that I ever met or had the pleasure to work with. I doubt that you could ever find a better human being. He so loved his wife Nan. He would often tear up as he spoke of her. The world lost a true humanitarian.”

CRS Executive Director RJ Curtis: “This is a very sad — indeed, devastating — day for anyone associated with Country music, Country radio, and radio in general. Bob Kingsley was a true icon, who championed our music, artists, and songwriters his entire career. He did so for six decades, and was always a complete gentleman, and genuinely nice person. He will be sorely missed.”

Benztown produced a video tribute you can see HERE.

Lon Helton: “Country music lost an icon today. For more than 40 years, Bob was the voice of Country to the music’s fans around the world. He counted down the week’s biggest hits for them and told the stories behind the songs and the singers, strengthening the bond that is so central to the relationship between country fans and stars. He championed new artists and songwriters. Bob was the gold standard for all of us in Country radio; an American original. A gentleman, and a gentle man, through and through. Weekends will never be the same without the sound of Bob’s voice.”

Country Radio Media Consultant Joel Raab: “A true gentleman in every sense of the word. I was fortunate to be one of the first programmers to air his Countdown show (in Pittsburgh). His talent and passion came through in every break. It was a honor to know him.”

A celebration of life will be held in Nashville on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the Country Music Hall of Fame’s CMA Theater. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kingsley’s name to the Country Music Hall of Fame’s All For The Hall campaign or the Grand Ole Opry Trust Fund.
